Suffolk VW T4 1.9TD Campervan Remap – From 55bhp to 90bhp
This one arrived from Suffolk with a problem the owner already knew about. A VW T4 1.9TD camper conversion, driven up here because it wasn’t performing the way it should. …
At PP Tuning, every Pendle Remap or exhaust upgrade tells a story. Whether it’s a modern van arriving for more torque, or a classic coach-built conversion needing a careful tune, these projects highlight the difference that skilled hands and Pendle Performance software can make. Customers come to our Louth workshop from across the country, knowing their vehicles will leave with more power, smoother delivery, and a new lease of life.

Take the VW T4 for example. From the early VW T4 1.9TD models tuned up to 98bhp through to limited Karman coach-built campers brought in for correct mapping, each upgrade shows how even older vans can benefit from precise ECU recalibration. These improvements aren’t about chasing numbers alone, but about making a van more usable on today’s roads, with stronger pulling power and better driveability.
The more recent VW Transporters also make regular appearances. A T5 tuned to 206bhp alongside a custom exhaust and dyno session demonstrates how a balanced approach to hardware and software brings the best results. Meanwhile, a T5.1 owner from Lincoln gained 166bhp and 331Nm torque after a Pendle remap and DPF regeneration. These jobs illustrate the step forward that modern remapping techniques offer, blending reliability with performance.
It’s not all Transporters either. Smaller vans like the VW Caddy have seen big transformations when remapping is combined with exhaust upgrades. And outside the Volkswagen badge, a Land Rover Freelander was recently tuned from its original 150bhp up to an impressive 215bhp with 480Nm torque.
Cars also benefit: a 2019 Audi A3 TDI with DSG gearbox came in at 150bhp, needed a DPF regeneration, and left with 195bhp and 405Nm torque.
These examples show the variety of vehicles and goals we see at PP Tuning, but the thread that runs through them all is precision and care. Whether it’s improving towing strength, sharpening throttle response, or simply making a long-distance drive less of a slog, Pendle Performance Remapping makes a real difference to everyday use.
If you’re interested in what’s possible for your own vehicle, take a look at the individual stories below. Each one offers a glimpse into how PP Tuning approaches different engines and set-ups, and why drivers continue to put their trust in Pendle Remapping.
Yes, when carried out by professionals using trusted software. At PP Tuning every remap is tailored to the vehicle and checked on our rolling road to ensure safe and reliable results.
In most cases, yes. By refining the way your engine burns fuel, a remap can give you more torque at lower revs which means fewer gear changes and better miles per gallon.
If your diesel particulate filter is blocked or heavily loaded, it should be cleaned or regenerated first. That is why many customers combine DPF work with remapping, as seen in our VW T6.1 project.
Most remaps are completed in a few hours, while a custom exhaust build may take a little longer. You can usually drive home the same day with a noticeable difference.
Yes, provided that emissions systems such as the catalytic converter and DPF remain intact. We always ensure our work is MOT compliant and road legal.
Absolutely. Even a modest 1.9TD can be transformed from sluggish to lively with a careful remap, making motorway journeys and hills much easier to handle.
They do. We have tuned vehicles brought in from Ireland, Portugal, and across the UK, which shows the trust customers place in our expertise.
