What about remapping high-mileage vehicles?

What matters is the condition of the engine and drivetrain.

- using the correct quality of oil,
- keeping servicing up to date,
- using suitable fuel where required and
- dealing with developing faults rather than ignoring them.
Some tuned vehicles may benefit from more frequent servicing depending on their use, modifications and performance level, but there isn’t one servicing interval that makes sense for every remapped car.
If you’ve invested in improving the vehicle’s performance, looking after it afterwards is simply common sense.
So, bottom line, is engine remapping safe?
Yes! A professionally developed remap on a mechanically healthy vehicle can provide a substantial improvement in power, torque, throttle response and general drivability without turning the engine into a ticking time bomb.
But no reputable tuner should pretend there’s zero additional load or zero risk.
The real questions are
- how much performance is being asked for,
- whether the vehicle is healthy enough to handle it and
- whether the calibration has been developed with reliability rather than headline figures in mind.
