This 2020 VW Crafter came down from West Yorkshire for one reason. It needed more pull, more drive, and a setup that would actually suit life as a camper once it’s fully loaded.
Vans like this live hard lives. Weight, hills, long runs, stop-start driving. Factory maps are built to survive every climate and every fuel quality worldwide, not to feel good on UK roads. That’s where a proper remap earns its keep.
Straight onto the MAHA rolling road
Before we touch any software, every vehicle gets checked. No shortcuts.
This Crafter went straight onto our MAHA rolling road for a full pre-tune health check. Stock figures came back at 132bhp and 311Nm of torque. Nothing wrong with that on paper, but anyone who’s driven a loaded Crafter knows it runs out of breath quickly.
Everything checked out mechanically, so we moved on.
Pendle Performance Remap done properly
We use Pendle Performance software because it’s written properly, tested properly, and tailored to the vehicle. Not a generic file, not a one-size-fits-all upload.
Alongside the remap, this van had a full DPF regeneration and all relevant adaptations reset and calibrated. That matters. Skip those steps and you’re leaving performance and reliability on the table.
Once everything was dialled in, we ran it again.
The results that actually matter
Final figures came out at 190bhp and 427Nm of torque.
Volkswagen Crafter
2020 2.0 TDIThat extra torque is the real win here. It’s what makes the van easier to drive, calmer on hills, and far less stressful when it’s loaded up with conversion gear, tools, or bikes.
This isn’t about chasing pub numbers. It’s about usable power where you need it.
• 132bhp to 190bhp
• 311Nm to 427Nm torque
• Smoother pull through the rev range
• Better suited to camper and work use

Once this Crafter is fully converted and carrying its extra weight, it’ll still pull cleanly without constant downshifting. That’s the difference a proper remap makes.
Built for real-world vans
We see a lot of Crafters, Transporters, Sprinters and Transits come through the doors for the same reason. Owners don’t want something lairy. They want something that drives better, works harder, and feels right every day.
That’s exactly what this one left with.
If you’re running a van, building a camper, or just fed up with a vehicle that feels strangled from the factory, get in touch. We’ll check it properly and tell you what it can realistically achieve.
